About Us

We are a faith community with nearly 100 years of history in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. We strive to be a welcoming place for all. We are called as a gathering of believers to live as Church, not just on Sunday but every day.

What We Believe

We trust that God continues to speak and move in this world, primarily through people.

We trust that the scriptures are full of faithful stories, poems, histories, first-hand accounts, and visions of God’s work with humanity across the ages.

We trust that Jesus is God’s embodied love letter for our world.

We trust that love is stronger than hate.

We trust that God calls us into communities who, empowered by the Holy Spirit, help to turn the world around.

We trust that God shows up in bread, wine and water.

We trust that God loves people, even people who don’t love God.

We trust that God creates, that Jesus redeems, and that the Holy Spirit motivates.

We trust that you’ll be welcome here and can help us change lives.

Pastor Alice JOhnson-curl

Pastor Alice completed her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Mount Olive College (now University of Mount Olive). Her undergraduate studies also included four semesters of course work in Special Education from Rutgers College. From 1997 to 2001, she attended Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. She received her Master of Divinity in 2001, as a distinguished graduate, being awarded Divisional Honors in Division III: Church and Ministry, for pastoral care. She was ordained in 2001.

In 2006, Pastor Alice was called to serve Trinity Lutheran Church. In addition to her relationship with the congregation of Trinity, she has developed a close partnership with United Community Ministries. She considers being part of their shelter and soup kitchen ministries, here in Rocky Mount, to be a sacred privilege. Pastor Alice also serves as the coordinator of the annual Summer Community Worship Services. She is a convener of a local ecumenical clergy group. She participates in a clergy group dedicated to ongoing recovery from hurricane and flooding damage in the Edgecombe/Nash community. She also serves as the dean of the Coastal Plains Conference, part of the North Carolina Synod.

Aside from being a pastor, Pastor Alice considers herself very blessed to be Bob’s wife; mother to Matthew, Ian, Justin (and Daniela), and Elizabeth; and nana to Hunter and Callen. To relax, she enjoys reading, watching movies, and binging on TV episodes of The Closer, MASH, and Quantum Leap. She also makes it a point to carve out time in the week for slow jogging.
